Wine and Tulips was inspired by a photograph I took during a birthday trip to Napa Valley with my brother. I was drawn to the combination of fresh flowers, wine, and rolling vineyard hills, and I wanted to preserve the warmth and relaxed feeling of that memory in a layered wood painting.
I created the artwork from four individually cut layers of birch plywood. The wine bottle, glass, grapes, tulips, and landscape sit at different depths, giving the composition genuine physical dimension. As the light in the room changes, the raised elements cast soft shadows that become part of the artwork.
I used translucent acrylic glazes so portions of the natural birch grain remain visible beneath the color. The wood grain adds warmth and texture to the vineyard hills, table, and surrounding forms, while the hand-painted details soften the precision of the laser-cut layers.
The piece is finished with custom stains and a protective varnish. It is presented in a custom-stained wood frame with engraved linear details designed to complement the layered composition.
