Artist Statement
My work is a pursuit of joy and a study of tranquility. I create multi-layered wood paintings that merge laser technology with hand-painted techniques to capture optimistic moments in our surroundings—from the shifting colors of a flower to the quiet details of a still life. I aim to distill these observations into a "frame" of peace, bringing a sense of wonder into everyday spaces.
This path reflects a lifelong journey through art and science, merging twenty years as a film makeup artist with a passion for sculpture. On set, I learned to see the face as a dimensional canvas; today, I apply those principles to wood. By stacking laser-cut layers, I evolve flat paintings into sculptural reliefs. I use thinned acrylic glazes to keep the wood grain visible, followed by bold, impressionistic strokes to suggest movement. Because I am an optimist, I focus on the vibrant energy of our world. My art serves as a colorful anchor—a reminder that beauty and joy are always aiting to be discovered.
Behind the Lens & Layers
From the high-stakes film sets of Pirates of the Caribbean to the quiet precision of my Washington woodshop, my journey has always been about storytelling. I combine 20 years of cinematic artistry with sculptural woodworking to bring the rugged beauty of the Pacific Northwest to life. Click below to explore the full story behind the layers.
